Built in 1929 as a silent movie theater, the 1,380-seat Stevens Center is now a performance hall for groups including the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Piedmont Opera Theater and other local groups. Run by the North Carolina School of the Arts, the Neoclassical theater also serves as the performance hall for some of the school's most popular events, such as its annual production of "The Nutcracker," and performances by guest artists. Located in the heart of downtown, the theater is close to many lovely restaurants and attractions including the Old Salem Museums & Gardens.
